How Obesity Affects Your Pet's Health

Obesity negatively affects ALL body systems; It’s associated with hormonal and metabolic changes, along with the additional accumulation of adipose (fat) tissue that can be problematic all by itself

Diseases caused/exacerbated by extra body weight:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Type 2 Diabetes (weight loss can = reversal!)
  • High blood pressure
  • Breathing problems (especially in brachycephalic dogs like pugs and bulldogs)
  • Kidney disease
  • Shortened life expectancy
  • Heart disease
  • Cancers—especially intra-abdominal types

Heavy pets interact with their families less and are aren’t as playful! :(

Their lethargy can mask illnesses—can be shrugged off as their “normal laziness”

Obese cats are 4 times more likely to develop diabetes!

PREVENTION is much easier than treatment!!
